A New Poem

I’ve been thinking a lot lately
About writing a new song
Or painting a new picture
Or telling a new story

It will be a joyous song
About a person
Lost and found.
About being here in front of you
and being enough.
About losing the judgements
and cultivating acceptance instead.
Isn’t that all any of us
want anyways?

It will be a transforming picture
that never looks the same
two days in a row.
A picture with lots of little details
hiding memories
to be remembered.
A picture
with a big sky full of dreams
and a solid dose of content-ness
drawn out in the ground.
A picture
that reminds me
I have overcome,
I can overcome,
and I will overcome.
A picture of resiliency.
No matter what, we will all be
OK.

The story I have to tell
has no real end.
Its our collective journey.
The destination for today, is today.
The destination for tomorrow, is tomorrow.
Each step takes us in a direction
Some are stumbles,
some are leaps.
Some go forwards,
some backwards, some sideways.
In the moment of movement
lies growth, struggle, courage and change.
When your foot hits the ground
its up to you whether or not
you want to leave it there
or turn around.
